Update (6:53 p.m. ET): Alabama coach Nick Saban said during his postgame press conference that Chris Allen is dealing with a “pretty significant” foot injury that could keep him out the rest of the season.

The Alabama football team is rolling Miami in the first half of the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta, Georgia. At the end of the second quarter, the Crimson Tide has a substantial 27-3 lead over the Hurricanes.

Unfortunately, it hasn’t only been good news for Alabama, as starting outside linebacker Chris Allen is in the locker room with an unknown injury.

Early in the second quarter, Allen brought down Miami star quarterback D’Eriq King for a third-down sack to get off the field. From there, the senior pass rusher went to the medical tent, and was subsequently carted off the field.

We don’t know much about the injury at this time. It looked to be some sort of lower leg injury, but attempting to speculate any further would be unwise.

With Allen out, sophomore Drew Sanders, a former blue chip prospect coming out of high school in 2020, was inserted into Allen’s spot opposite fellow outside linebacker Will Anderson Jr.

If there’s a silver lining to be found in this unfortunate situation, it’s that Alabama remains extremely deep at the position. But if Allen is forced to miss time — on top of Quandarrius Robinson’s recent suspension — then it becomes a group that can’t afford many more hits.
