Decision Day: Will Alabama basketball land elite SF?
Commitment day has finally arrived for Prolific Prep small forward Derrion Reid.
Reid, who previously planned on committing in late October, opted to push his decision date back indefinitely. No additional visits were taken after October, but Reid was able to narrow his options down to one and will commit on Friday. He checks in as a Five-Star Plus+ prospect, meaning that Reid is a five-star on all four major recruiting media rankings services.

Alabama has not let up in the pursuit of Derrion Reid
The Alabama Crimson Tide began their pursuit of Derrion Reid over two years ago. Reid reported an offer from the program back in October 2021. That was when he was a sophomore at Grovetown High School in Georgia, where he will be announcing his decision on Friday.
Reid would go on to take a visit to Bama in June 2022. He later returned to Tuscaloosa for his official visit from Oct. 20-22 of this year. Alabama ended up receiving the final official visit from Reid, who previously had visited Georgia (Oct. 6-8) and Florida State (Sept. 7-9).
Alabama’s pursuit has involved staff turnover, but the constant has remained head coach Nate Oats. In a recent conversation with On3’s Jamie Shaw, Reid said Bama’s longtime involvement in his recruitment stands out to him.
“They have been involved since the beginning of my recruitment,” Reid told Shaw this month. “They’ve been on me heavily throughout, and they tell me I can come in and make an immediate impact with their style of play. The bond that the players have off the court stood out for me on the visit. Like the way the players and coaches all interacted when we went out to eat, and stuff.
“They play freely there with a lot of spacing. I can come in and make an immediate impact and get better as a player.”
According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Alabama has a 92.9 percent chance of landing Reid on Friday.
If Reid does end up picking the Tide, Oats and his staff will be adding yet another top prospect from Prolific Prep in Napa (Calif.). Last month, Alabama signed Prolific Prep big man and Reid’s teammate, Aiden Sherrell. The On3 Industry Rankings tab Reid as the No. 13 overall prospect in his class, and the fourth-ranked small forward.
Reid has continued to validate his high ranking, earning the No. 3 On3 top performer spot in the 2023 Battle in the Peach tournament earlier this month.
The potential addition of Reid would bolster an Alabama class that is currently No. 9 in the team recruiting rankings. Along with Sherrell (No. 14 overall on On3), Bama signed top-50 prospect Naas Cunningham last month.
