Update (10:18 p.m. CT): Joe Schad, who covers the Miami Dolphins for the Palm Beach Post, is reporting that Tagovailoa “will be discharged” from the hospital and “is expected to travel back with the team.” This is fantastic news and a great first step, but we’ll have to wait and see how things progress from here. Stay tuned for more updates.

Former Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has suffered severe head and neck injuries during a Thursday Night Football game against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Miami Dolphins star signal-caller had to be carried off the field on a stretcher and, according to reports, is being taken to a local hospital.

The injury happened during the second quarter while Tagovailoa was dropping back for a pass. Bengals fifth-year defensive tackle Josh Tupou put pressure on the 2020 first-round draft pick, and after Tagovailoa tried to escape, Tupou brought him down rather hard.

“Tua Tagovailoa has been taken to a local hospital for further evaluation,” the statement reads. “He is conscious and has movement in all his extremities.”

That’s obviously good news, as the most important thing for Tagovailoa is his health and well-being. Unfortunately we don’t know anything further on how this will affect his availability or status moving forward for the Dolphins. We’ll share more updates as they’re provided.

Prayers up for Tua!
