Kalen DeBoer issues statement after former player arrested on rape charges
Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer released a statement on Thursday regarding Washington running back Tylin “Tybo” Rogers, who was arrested on rape charges Friday in Seattle.
“While I am not able to comment specifically on the situation involving an individual at my former institution because of federal privacy laws and the ongoing criminal matters, I do want to make it clear that I take any allegation of sexual misconduct very seriously,” DeBoer said in a statement.
“I always have and always will follow established institutional policies and procedures to ensure prompt reporting and proper handling of allegations by the appropriate authorities.”
Rogers, 18, was arrested at 9 a.m. on Friday near Husky Stadium. He was booked into King County Jail, where he was charged on Tuesday with second- and third-degree rape, per King 5 News in Seattle. His bail was set at $150,000 for each case and has since been posted.
The alleged rapes occurred in October and November of 2023 when Rogers was still on the Huskies’ active roster. The first victim reported the incident to UW and its Title IX office on Nov. 28, police told King 5 News. Rogers was then suspended from team activities and did not travel for its Pac-12 Championship Game matchup with Oregon on Dec. 1, 2023.
Officials said multiple emails were sent within the UW athletic department stating Rogers should be removed from the Huskies’ travel roster for the conference championship game, but they did not specify why. Rogers was allowed to rejoin the team on Dec. 15 and played its two College Football Playoff games, where he received a combined six carries for 21 yards.
Washington said on Tuesday that Rogers has been suspended from all team activities.
