The Alabama defense has already lost one key player to a season-ending injury in outside linebacker Christopher Allen. On Saturday, fans became even more concerned with even more losses.

Starting cornerbacks Josh Jobe and Jalyn Armour-Davis didn’t suit up against Mercer, and the reason was unknown. As if that wasn’t bad enough, star pass rusher Will Anderson Jr. left the game early due to a knee injury.

On Monday during his weekly press conference, coach Nick Saban provided updates on all three of those players. It started with the update on Anderson, which Saban talked about in his opening statement.

“From an injury standpoint, Will Anderson has been very encouraging,” Saban told reporters. “He’ll probably take a day off today. He is kind of day-to-day, but we feel a little more encouraged than maybe after the game. So, we’ll just see how he progresses through the course of the week.”

That is fantastic news. Anderson is one of the top defensive players in all of college football, so the Crimson Tide can’t afford to lose him for any significant period of time. That especially holds true after the loss of Allen in Week One.

Saban also gave updates on his starting cornerback duo.

“Both guys [Jobe and Armour-Davis] are expected to practice today,” Saban said. “We’ll kinda see where they are at practice and how they develop through the course of the week.”

Saban’s response didn’t shed a lot of light as to why both of them missed the game, but it at least sounds like they’re trending in the right direction towards playing on Saturday.

In their absence, Kool-Aid McKinstry and Marcus Banks stepped into starting roles. They combined for 10 tackles, and each of them hauled in an interception.
