Six Tide players named to Nagurski, Outland preseason watch lists
The Outland Trophy and Bronko Nagurski Trophy announced their preseason watch lists on Tuesday, continuing two weeks of reveals, and Alabama was well-represented on both lists.
Crimson Tide defensive backs Kool-Aid McKinstry and Malachi Moore and linebacker Dallas Turner were all named to the Nagurski Trophy watch list. The Nagurski has been awarded to college football’s top defensive player by the Football Writers Association of America since 1993. The award is named after Bronko Nagurski, who played for Michigan and the Bears.
Three Alabama linemen were named to the Outland Trophy watch list in offensive lineman Tyler Booker and JC Latham and defensive lineman Jaheim Oatis. The Outland Trophy is presented to the best interior lineman in college football, also by the FWAA. It is named after John Outland who was one of the few players ever named an All-American at two different positions.
Six Crimson Tide players have hoisted the Outland Trophy, including Chris Samuels (1999), Andre Smith (2008), Barrett Jones (2011), Cam Robinson (2016), Quinnen Williams (2018) and Alex Leatherwood (2020). Jonathan Allen (2016) was the Crimson Tide’s lone Nagurski Trophy recipient until Will Anderson brought home the hardware in back-to-back seasons.
Earlier on Tuesday, long snapper Kneeland Hibbett was named to the Patrick Mannelly Award watch list. The Patrick Mannelly Award is annually presented to the nation’s top long snapper.
