The final NFL game of the 2022 season is finally here, as the Philadelphia Eagles take on the Kansas City Chiefs for Super Bowl LVII. By now, you probably know that the Chiefs don’t have any former Alabama players, but the Eagles sure do. Four of them, to be exact.

Those players include quarterback Jalen Hurts, wide receiver DeVonta Smith, offensive lineman Landon Dickerson and cornerback Josh Jobe. After going undrafted back in April, Jobe has been a backup for this entire season. The other three have been starters — and impact players — though.

Below, we’ve got you covered with all the info you’ll need to know for Sunday night.

This is one of the most anticipated Super Bowl games I can remember from my perspective. I am sure having a few former Alabama stars, playing significant roles in this game, has a little something to do with it.

Imagine Jalen Hurts guiding the Eagles to a Super Bowl win after the journey that he went through from the moment he was replaced in the 2018 National Championship. He also brings with him the player who caught the touchdown pass in that title game against Georgia, DeVonta Smith.

Now think about Hurts connecting with Smitty in the end zone tonight. What if it’s the game winner? Complete full circle. Hurts may also have a little extra motivation after Patrick Mahomes was named league MVP (48 of out 50 first place votes).

The game can go either way. Vegas knows it with a 1.5 point spread in favor of Chiefs. There are all sorts of storylines heading into the game, but the one that matters in the end is who wins the game?

Philly has the more ‘complete’ team, IMO. I believe they have just enough players on defense to make a stop late in the game against Kansas City. I still expect a high scoring game.

This has been an incredibly special season for the Philadelphia Eagles and their MVP candidate, Jalen Hurts. Games 1 through 17, this was the best team in football and the post season has not slowed them down.

I love their style of play. Physical on defense, run the ball, a little creative, ice cold and only hit the accelerator when necessary. This is a formula that works.

Until you meet Patrick Mahomes. The best football player alive today gets it done and wins his second Super Bowl in what may result in a career in which he runs down Tom Brady’s super Super Bowl numbers.
Take the under but also take the Chiefs.

The degree of difficulty in this game for Philadelphia is ten times greater than either of the two postseason games they’ve played thus far. They beat up on a New York Giants squad that was just happy to be in the Divisional Round, and San Francisco’s Brock Purdy was unable to finish the NFC Championship after sustaining a UCL injury.

On the other side, Kansas City has faced a red-hot Jackson Jaguars squad and a Cincinnati Bengals team that some regarded as the best in the NFL. They also just happen to have the best player in the league, as validated by Patrick Mahomes winning his second MVP award last week.

Some may be surprised to hear this — given my allegiance to another team — but I am going with Philadelphia today. Mahomes has been surprisingly average (if that) in both of his Super Bowl appearances to date, completing just 57.1 percent of his passes while throwing for just two touchdowns to four interceptions. I also am impressed with the Eagles’ combination of veteran leadership from the last Super Bowl squad (Jason Kelce, Fletcher Cox, etc…) and young, talented players.

I’ll take the over and Philadelphia to win.

For me, there’s one factor I’m keeping an eye on early in this one.

Yes, Patrick Mahomes got two extra weeks to rest the sprained ankle suffered against the Jaguars in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. And one week after the injury, the NFL MVP threw for 326 yards and two scores while leading the Chiefs to a 23-20 win over the Bengals. I get all that, but this Eagles pass rush is a different animal.

Kansas City rank No. 2 in the NFL this season with 55 sacks.

That’s impressive, but it’s only one ahead of the Cowboys and Patriots, who each had 54. The Eagles, on the other hand, are No. 1 while posting 70 sacks, 15 more than that second-place team. Four different players are in the double-digitis too, including Haason Reddick, who led the league.

Plus, you’ve got Fletcher Cox knocking on the door too with eight sacks.

What’s my point here? Well, Mahomes better hope he’s healthy enough to be mobile and elude pressure because Philadelphia is going to generate plenty. If he can do that, then I can see plenty of scenarios where the Chiefs can win. But with that being an unknown, I’ve got to roll with the four Alabama boys.

It would be awesome to see these guys get a Super Bowl, especially Jalen after everything he’s had to overcome. A win on Sunday would only solidify his status as one of the greatest sports stories of all time. Not only does he have a chance to win the Big Game, but he also gets a chance to do it over the guy who beat him out for MVP.

Hopefully, we see Hurts to Smith early and often.

Smitty finished the regular season first on the team with 95 catches while also ranking second in receiving yards (1,196) and touchdowns (7). But he’s currently leading the Eagles in receiving yards in the postseason with 97. This guy is known for showing up on the big stages. State championships, national title games and now, Super Bowls.

Eagles win a close one.
