The recruitment of Tampa (Fla.) Catholic cornerback Jameer Grimsley was trimmed down to three finalists on Thursday. Over 48 hours later, that list was narrowed to just one school: Alabama.

On Saturday night, Grimsley announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide, choosing them over Michigan and in-state Florida.

In the end, putting himself in the best position to reach his ultimate goal put Alabama over the top.

Coach’s Take: New Alabama commit Jameer Grimsley is a versatile prospect

“I feel like I made the best choice for me and my family,” Grimsley told BamaOnLine. “It was hard to choose over Michigan, but I bet on myself. I think I have the best opportunity of being developed at Alabama and going to the league in the highest round. I have big dreams, so I think Bama is the best place for me.”

Grimsley became very familiar with Bama’s football program through his unofficial visit in April and then his official visit the third weekend of June.

There’s a high level of comfort he feels in Tuscaloosa, especially with the knowledge he’ll be able to soak up from Nick Saban.

“I fit in very well with the players and the coaches,” Grimsley said. “They’re always competing for a national championship. Nick Saban, he’s hands on with the DBs. When you have the greatest coach of college football hands on with you at the DB position, it’s kind of hard to say no to that. He’s the winningest college football coach and is the best coach of all time, in my opinion.”

Evaluation: What Jameer Grimsley brings to Alabama

On the topic of Saban, Alabama’s head coach was thrilled when Grimsley informed him of his decision.

“Coach Saban was excited,” Grimsley said. “He says it’s a great opportunity for us. He thinks I can play a major role in Alabama winning some more national championships. I’m excited to go there. Looking forward to it.”

Jameer Grimsley to Alabama’s fan base: “Let’s go win some more natties.”

Jameer Grimsley’s official visit to Alabama two weekends ago was well-timed as it allowed him to hang out not only with Alabama’s players, but multiple 2024 commits as well.

“I was talking with Sterling Dixon and [Jaylen] Mbakwe,” Grimsley said. “They all said it’s a great place. Pretty much all the commits were saying it’s a great spot. How could you not choose Bama? It really makes sense.”

Grimsley is not too worried about Bama already having Mbakwe in the fold and also pursuing West Coast cornerback Zabien Brown.

Instead, he’s ready to embrace the competition he’ll receive at Alabama.

“A lot of people are scared of Alabama because they don’t know if they’re going to play or not because everybody who goes there is good,” Grimsley said. “Somebody like me, I love the competition and I think it’s going to make me a better player overall.”

Most of the interview with Grimsley revolved around why he chose the Tide, but he also discussed who Saban and Company are getting in him when he arrives next year.

“They’re going to get a hard worker. That won’t be a question,” Grimsley said. “A kid with a high motor. A great athlete who is very versatile and is a long corner. Can run and is going to get hands on with the receivers. We’re not going to get bullied on the outside by those big receivers, so that’s what you’re getting out of me.”

To cap off our conversation, Grimsley delivered the following message to Alabama’s fan base.

“Let’s go win some more natties,” Grimsley said. “Let’s get back on top. Why not Bama?”
