Kentucky transfer DT Justin Rogers commits to Auburn

Justin Rogers, one of the top defensive linemen in the transfer portal, has committed to Auburn.

Rogers, who is transferring from Kentucky, announced his decision Thursday on social media. He chose Auburn over Alabama and LSU.

Rogers’ decision comes four days after an official visit to the Plains.

“I like the environment at Auburn,” Rogers said. “It’s a small college town. That’s one thing I wanted, a real-life college town.”

He also wanted a defensive line coach that could further develop him. Rogers thinks Auburn defensive line coach Jeremy Garrett can be that guy.

“That’s my guy,” Rogers said. “He’s funny, a funny guy. I feel like he can coach me hard in the SEC West. That’s what I’m looking for, a great coach who can push me to get to the next level.”

Rogers, who originally is from Michigan, signed with Kentucky in 2020 after being one of the top overall recruits in the country. He was the No. 6 defensive lineman, the No. 44 overall recruit and No. 1 recruit from Michigan, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally-weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Rogers had 35 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and .5 sacks in 2022. He has two years of eligibility.

Rogers is the 11th transfer addition for Auburn in the ’23 class. He joins running back Brian Battie (USF), interior offensive lineman Avery Jones (East Carolina), offensive tackles Gunner Britton (Western Kentucky) and Dillon Wade (Tulsa), defensive linemen Lawrence Johnson (Purdue) and Mosiah Nasili-Kite (Maryland), tight end Rivaldo Fairweather (FIU), defensive end Elijah McAllister (Vanderbilt) and linebacker DeMario Tolan (LSU).

As of Wednesday night, Auburn’s transfer class ranked No. 3 in the country, according to On3 Transfer Team Rankings. The Tigers trailed only UCLA and SMU.
