Florida State has been no stranger to the transfer portal. The reigning ACC champions own a top 5 class in the On3 Transfer Rankings thanks in part to productive veterans DJ Uiagalelei and Tomiwa Durojaiye.

On Thursday, Durojaiye along with Florida natives Grady Kelly (Colorado St.), Jalen Brown (LSU) and Wilcox County’s BJ Gibson shared their early experiences in Tallahassee.

Gibson, a dual-sport athlete, says his goal as a freshman is to compete for repetitions in a crowded (13 on scholarship) wide receiver room. Gibson does plan to attempt to moonlight in baseball but not until the 2025 season.

Jalen Brown, a top 100 prospect in the 2023 class who initially enrolled at LSU, outlined a family conversation during Christmas break that led to him transferring to Florida State. Brown believes he’s a versatile pass catcher who can play multiple spots in the Mike Norvell offense.

Kelly, who played high school ball in Navarre, said he could feel the winning culture of Florida State when he came on his visit. Added that he sees a program where players work hard and push themselves and teammates to get better every day.

Durojaiye, who chose Florida State over Auburn, outlined his process for selecting a school which included researching the coaching tree of the head coaches to see the caliber of assistants they’ve developed. The Philadelphia native who initially enrolled at Kentucky following high school and later transferred to West Virginia says the consistency in message and approach from Norvell was a key factor in his decision to enroll at Florida State.

Florida State opens the 2024 season in the Aer Lingus College Football classic vs. Georgia Tech on Aug. 24 in Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland.

The Seminoles finished the season 13-1 with an ACC Championship and its first New Year’s Six bowl berth in 7 seasons.

Florida State has added 14 players from the transfer portal and a high school recruiting class that finished 14th in the 2024 cycle. The Seminoles also have a verbal commitment from Ivy League standout Jacob Rizy of Harvard; he is anticipated to enroll in the summer.
