Georgia basketball rolls to another non-conference win
Athens, Ga – Georgia basketball flashed its No. 25 ranking and earned its first win as a ranked team this season over Western Carolina, 112-82, in Stegman Coliseum on Thursday.
The Bulldogs moved to 10-1 on the season. Georgia hit triple digits for the fifth time this season on Thursday. Their pace continues to be a story of the season.
Georgia leads the country in scoring, averaging 98.3 points per game coming into the game on Thursday night.
Key Moment
The Catamounts were hanging around late in the first half. Western Carolina never led on Thursday. Georgia got out to a lead, but Western Carolina kept nipping at the lead, cutting it to as low as nine points just before the under four-minute timeout.
Georgia closed the half on an 11-6 run. The run was a bit skewed by three quick layups by Western Carolina in the last minute of the half.
That run felt like the run that settled the momentum down going the Catamounts’ way. Georgia took a 54-40 lead into the half.
Key Performance
Georgia’s offense was sparked by a few different names. The leading scorer was the Bulldogs’ leading scorer on the season, Jeremiah Wilkinson. He led the way with 26 points.

The Bulldogs also got 14 points and 10 rebounds from Somto Cyril. The 14 points were a career high for Cyril. It was his second career double-double.
Jordan Ross added another 15 points for Georgia.
The Takeaway
Georgia had every reason to be sleepy on Thursday. It’s the holiday break. They’re ranked and rolling high. The Bulldogs opened the game plan and saw a mid-major opponent sitting on a 4-6 record.
These are the nights when you find out how a team’s culture operates. Georgia showed that, though it was not pretty at every single turn, they can keep their energy and play the game the way they play it against anyone.
Georgia’s defense leaked some holes a few times on Thursday, but that has been a consistent talking point for head coach Mike White. That area of the team will continue to grow as this team takes shape.
What’s next?
Georgia will be back in action on the other side of the weekend. The Bulldogs will play host to West Georgia on Monday in a Christmas break matinee. Tip is set for 2 p.m. in Stegman Coliseum on Monday.
