I’m guessing there’s one name that pops into your mind when you think of Georgia and the number 27, which is exactly how many days we are away from the Bulldogs kicking off the season against the Oregon Ducks.

How can you not go Nick Chubb here?

Is there anyone who didn’t love watching the pride of Cedartown, Georgia absolutely steamroll fools who dared step in his path during his tenure with the Bulldogs?

Chubb had it all. Insane power, breakaway speed, outstanding vision, an effortlessly cool demeanor, and humility which made him an ever reluctant star despite how was clear it was that greatness was part of him.

And his legend was undeniable, from dominant performances to overcoming a horrific knee injury against the Tennessee Volunteers in Neyland Stadium.

I thought that may well be the end for Nick Chubb or at least fundamentally change one of the most enjoyable players fans in Athens have ever had the pleasure of rooting for.

It was one prediction I was thrilled to be completely wrong about.

Chubb would finish his career in Athens with over 5000 total yards, 6.3 yards per carry, 48 career touchdowns, was named a permanent team captain, and finished behind only Herschel Walker on the all-time Georgia rushing yardage list.

He was also named SEC Freshman of the Year and Coaches All-SEC first team in 2017.

Now, he’s in the NFL and considered one of the league’s best backs.

He’s also just throwing around absolutely ridiculous weight.

And now in Athens, the legacy of 27 is being carried on by a fellow Cedartown Bulldog in CJ Washington.

While Washington suffered a serious neck injury in the spring, perhaps the magic of the number will afford him a similar fate of Chubb.

All of Dawg nation will be hoping so.

Oh, and speaking of another 27, how about Eric Stokes?

I’ve told the story many times of my first time seeing him in a Georgia open scrimmage and how I was convinced that he’d be processed.

Wrong again.

The outstanding evaluation of Stokes by Kirby Smart and Mel Tucker led to Stokes developing into a lockdown cornerback for the Bulldogs and first-round pick.

He’s emerging as one of the best in the NFL at the position, as well.

Safe to say 27 has been a strong number for the Bulldogs for many, many reasons.
