Georgia wanted a quarterback when the spring transfer portal opened and it now has one. The Bulldogs have landed a commitment from Arizona State signal caller Jaden Rashada, giving them eight transfer additions since the end of the 2023 season.

Rashada will be a redshirt freshman in 2024 with four years to play four. He will compete with Gunner Stockton, a redshirt sophomore, for the backup quarterback job for the upcoming season. Those two plus Ryan Puglisi will compete for the starting job in 2025.

Arizona State chose Rashada as its starting quarterback to begin the 2023 season and he had that job for two games before getting injured. He made his debut against Southern Utah where he completed 18 of 31 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns. His second start came the next week against Oklahoma State, which finished the season ranked No. 16 nationally. He completed 16 of 29 passes against the Cowboys for 167 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

It was in that game that he sustained an undisclosed injury that kept him out for the next nine games of his freshman season. He returned for the regular-season finale against Arizona, getting the start and completing 10 of 22 passes for 82 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in the loss.

Rashada missed most of spring practice with a non-football injury to his thumb, one that required surgery. He was, however, able to practice some and participated in 11-on-11 portions of practice at the end of spring drills.

As a prospect the 6-foot-4 205 pound trigger man was rated as a four-star prospect and as the nation’s No. 73 overall player in the 2023 class per the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that includes all four websites that publish recruiting rankings. He was the No. 6 quarterback in the country and the No. 6 prospect in California.

Rashada initially committed to Miami in the 2023 cycle but later flipped to Florida where he signed a National Letter of Intent. He then asked out of the letter of intent because, according to multiple published reports, the Gators were unable to live up to an eight-figure Name, Image, and Likeness commitment. He chose Arizona State as his landing spot with the Sun Devils hiring first-year head coach and former Oregon offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham to lead the program.
