28 days means just four weeks until Georgia Bulldogs football is back on your TV, in your face in Atlanta, or streaming through your ears via radio broadcast from Scott Howard.

It also represents another one of the program’s record-setting first-round defensive draft picks for the Bulldogs.

That’s because, with the 28th pick in the 2022 NFL draft, the Green Bay Packers turned their attention to their second Dawg in the first round.

Quay Walker was the first taken by the Pack, but soon thereafter, they would look to Athens for reinforcements on the defensive side again, this time in defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt.

He was highly regarded coming out of high school, ranked as a four-star and the nation’s No. 293 overall player for the Class of 2017.

While it seemed like a slam dunk pick on that front, few things had ever come easily for Wyatt.

Out of Decatur’s Towers High School, Wyatt committed to the Bulldogs in high school but ended up taking a different route for his freshman season. His stop in Hutchinson, Kansas’ Hutchinson Junior College would be key in development, and when the time expired, he promptly made his way back to the Classic City.

Over his career with the Bulldogs, Wyatt would end up playing in 49 games, total 113 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, five sacks, three pass deflections, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and a block.

He picked a fine time for a breakout, as well, with his senior season marking career high totals in tackles and tackles for loss. Both forced fumbles would also come in his final year with the Georgia program, as well.

Wyatt would also notably register four quarterback hits in the National Championship win over Alabama.

While positional running mate Jordan Davis took much of the spotlight, Wyatt was quick to note during the NFL combine that the bond at Georgia was always such that he never felt slighted.

“I don’t even feel like ‘the other guy.’ I felt like the family. I felt like a brother. Nobody ever acted like they was bigger than the other person,” Wyatt said. “We all was like balanced together. We all came together. That’s one thing I loved about my boy Jordan. He always kept me up. I kept him up. We always pushed each other.”

Now, he figures to be wearing a G of a different shade, but he’ll always be a Bulldog at heart and one fans should be able to follow for years to come at the next level.
