Georgia defensive lineman Christen Miller announced plans to enter the transfer portal on Wednesday. Having spent two seasons in Athens with his first acting as a redshirt year, the Ellenwood, Ga. native will have three years of eligibility remaining at the school of his choosing.

Seeing action in 13 contests last season, the reserve defensive lineman listed at 6-foot-4, 305 pounds made 14 tackles including nine solo stops. He had four tackles for loss with his lone sack of the season coming versus Georgia Tech followed the next week by another tackle for loss against Alabama. Those two games, along with the first two of the season against UT Martin and Ball State, saw Miller record multiple tackles. He would miss the Orange Bowl win over Florida State due to a meniscus injury. Miller played in four games as a freshman in 2022, recording a quarterback hurry against Samford.

Expected to be a key contributor for Georgia this coming season, the Bulldogs are now left to rely on a group that features the veteran presences of Nazir Stackhouse and Warren Brinson, plus those of guys like former five-star Jordan Hall, South Carolina transfer Xzavier McLeod, 6-foot-5, 350-pound big man Jamaal Jarrett and a total of five freshmen from the Class of 2024 on the defensive line.

Miller, who chose Georgia over the likes of Ohio State and USC during his initial recruitment in the Class of 2022, will be forced to transfer outside of the SEC due to conference rules for the spring window. It’s the second straight year the Bulldogs have lost a defensive lineman in this opening, previously watching Bear Alexander depart Athens for Southern California.

Miller joins running back Andrew Paul and wide receiver Tyler Williams, who announced his commitment already to Minnesota, in leaving Georgia since the ending of spring practice. Graduate offensive lineman Chad Lindberg, headed to Rice, entered the transfer portal prior to the start of spring practice while 18 did so during the winter window.
