A veteran Georgia offensive lineman is saying farewell to the program and entering the 2023 NFL Draft. Fifth-year senior Warren Ericson, who could come back and play a super-senior season, is moving on. He made the announcement via Twitter.

“Thank you for some of the best years of my life,” Ericson said in a statement. “I am blessed to have received an education from this University and I am incredibly grateful to have called Athens, Georgia home for the last five years. This University, its staff, and everyone around it will always hold a special place in my heart.

“To the Georgia Football staff and coaches:

“Georgia football has been the greatest blessing in my life. From the beginning, Coach Smart and every staff member instilled in me a physical and mental toughness, resilience, and leadership. These are traits that I will be able to use for the rest of my life. I want to thank Coach Smart and Coach Pittman for taking a chance on me as well as Coach Luke, Coach Searels, and the rest of the support staff for helping me become the player I am today.

“To my teammates:

“Family is the only word I can think of to describe y’all. Through blood, sweat, and tears we created a bond that will never break. You boys will be my brothers for life. We accomplished something never before in CFP era, back to back National Champions!

“To Dawg Nation:

“Thank you for always showing up and being loud. There is no doubt that we have the best fans in the country. There is truly no feeling like running out of the tunnel in Sanford on Saturdays. We couldn’t do it without you.

“I would like to thank my family and friends for all their love and support as none of this would be possible without them. With that being said, I will be declaring for the 2023 NFL Draft. I’m excited and hopeful for the future. Go Dawgs!”

Ericson joins Warren McClendon and Broderick Jones as Georgia linemen exciting the program with pro ambitions. Starting center Sedrick Van Pran also has a decision to make but hasn’t yet announced anything.

Ericson started 14 games during Georgia’s 2021 National Championship run. All of those starts game at right guard after Tate Ratledge suffered a serious foot injury in the season opener against Clemson. Ericson served as the backup center all season and did the same in 2022. He also worked some at the guard spots when Xavier Truss got dinged up in the second half of the year.
