Kirby Smart legend only continues to grow – even in May
Even in May, the legend of Kirby Smart continues to grow for the Dawgs. And that’s with a wild roller coaster of a College Football schedule that seems to be changing even quicker.
Look, the CFB schedule just makes it more and more tempting for coaches to jump to the National Football League.
More visits. More transfer portal dates. And more NIL.
When the SEC settled on its mantra, ‘It Just Means More,’ it couldn’t have predicted the state of College Football better.
You better be ready for more, or this isn’t the job for you.
Well, as we discussed on The Georgia Show (like and subscribe on YouTube / Apple / Spotify), Dawgs fans ought to carry gratitude for Kirby Smart in their Bulldog hearts for a few reasons.
Some of it has to do with a couple players who just left.
Some of it has to do with the fact that Smart’s sticking around, when a log of his peers aren’t.
Stetson Bennett and Jalen Carter got the recognition many Georgia football fans thought they deserved
Albeit anonymously.
And after the NFL Draft.
For all that talk about each guy having ‘character concerns,’ the praise they got from anonymous SEC coaches shows just how much of a problem Stetson Bennett and Jalen Carter were on the field.
Clearly, Stetson’s persona wasn’t enough to scare the Rams away. In fact, it sounds like they pursued him. And there was never going to be a situation in which Jalen Carter fell out of the top ten picks.
Smart built a machine of NFL-caliber talent. With these recent statements form anonymous SEC coaches, it’s clear that his peers agree.
Kirby vs. the calendar
One thing that we could talk about for at least several hours each week is the ever-present squeeze on College Football coaches’ calendars.
It’s like the trash compactor in ‘Star Wars.’
Ask them, and they’ll tell you that yeah, there’s a monster in their environment too.
It isn’t something they can’t overcome, but all of the dates and hoops and checkpoints – now with the transfer portal included – have some coaches sending a side-eye glance over to the NFL.
But not Kirby Smart.
Georgia football fans, you have a coach that will not sleep (or retire or change professions) until he’s kicked that calendar’s tail.
Somehow, he’s even found time to write a book in there, too.
Yes, it’s May.
Charity golf appearances and a whole lot of drummed up stories appear this time of year.
But nothing’s slowing down in Kirby Smart’s world.
