Matthew Stafford blazed a championship trail for Matt Ryan to follow

Matthew Stafford walked away from his first NFL franchise so Matt Ryan could run.

Matt. Run.

Get out of there, pal.

With the Atlanta Falcons’ trade of Matt Ryan to the Colts, I couldn’t help but think about former Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford’s career evolution.

Matthew Stafford asked for a trade from Detroit, and Matt Ryan got caught up in the Deshaun Watson whirlwind

If you’ve watched more than a few minutes of the NCAA Tournament, you’ve seen Matthew Stafford’s brilliant TV spot with AT&T.

If you haven’t, here it is:

Two quarterbacks. Two franchises in the rearview.

Matthew Stafford left Detroit in a trade for Jared Goff and joined the perfect situation in Los Angeles.

The Rams won a Super Bowl.

Everyone benefited.

Well, everyone except the Lions and Jared Goff.

As the AT&T ad depicts, Stafford is grateful for his time with Detroit.

He just needed a change to achieve at the highest level.

Matt Ryan had his chance to win a Super Bowl with the Falcons. We all know what happened there.

Atlanta got worse after 28-3, and the bottom continues to elude it.

I don’t know if Matt Ryan will look back on his final days with the Falcons as Matthew Stafford seems to look back on his time with the Lions.

But he had some good memories.

And now that we’ve seen what’s possible with Matthew Stafford, maybe Matt Ryan has some better ones ahead in Indianapolis, too.

It’s difficult for his former team’s short-term landscape to look much worse.

The Falcons just played themselves, and lost.

They could learn a thing or two from the way Matthew Stafford’s Georgia Bulldogs operate.
