Former Georgia running back Nick Chubb went down with an apparent serious knee injury during Monday Night Football featuring Chubb’s Cleveland Browns and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Hit on his left knee, the same one he injured in college, Chubb left the field on a cart.

For those wanting to see the injury for themselves, we’ll provide a pair of links – one more gruesome than the other.

Chubb has already been ruled out by the Browns, and reaction around the league on social media is showing tons of sympathy for a player considered to be without a doubt one of the best in the NFL.

Chubb was taken in the second round by the Browns in the 2018 NFL Draft after an outstanding career at Georgia. Since then, the Cedartown, Ga. native has been named to four Pro Bowls and was a Second-Team All-Pro selection in 2022.

Chubb was ranked as the No. 1 running back in the NFL this past offseason by league personnel including executives, coaches and scouts. Entering this season, he was averaging 5.2 yards a carry and over 1,200 yards a season on his career.

Chubb signed a three-year contract extension with Cleveland back in 2021, keeping him with the organization through 2024.

Chubb spent four seasons in Athens including two under the direction of Kirby Smart. In 2014, Chubb entered the season as a backup to Todd Gurley but took over as the starter when Gurley was suspended. He rushed for 143 yards on 38 carries in his first career start before having 202 yards and two scores on 30 touches the very next week. On the season he totaled 1,547 yards and 14 touchdowns. Chubb won SEC Freshman of the Year and was a First-Team All-SEC selection that season.

Chubb got off to a strong start in 2015, tying Herschel Walker’s record of 13 consecutive 100-yard games in early October. However, he suffered a knee injury against Tennessee to his left knee that tore his MCL, PCL and LCL with cartilage damage. It is that same left knee injured on Monday night.

Chubb would return in 2016, Smart’s first season, and made an immediate impact. In his first game back against North Carolina, he ran for 222 yards and a pair of touchdowns. It came as a part of a more modest 1,130 yards that season.

It was Chubb’s return in 2017 that proved to be so key to Georgia and the Bulldogs becoming a national power once again under Smart. A captain, he helped lead the team to its first SEC Championship since 2005 and first appearance in the College Football Playoffs. Working in tandem with Sony Michel, Chubb put up 1,345 yards and a career-high 15 touchdowns. He had 145 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the Rose Bowl victory over Oklahoma to put Georgia into the National Championship Game. He also eclipsed the 100-yard mark against Samford, Vanderbilt and Kentucky.

Chubb finished his career as second all-time in SEC rushing yards behind fellow Bulldog Herschel Walker. He had over 1,000 yards on a season three times, also joining Walker as the only players in UGA history to do so.
