Kansas State scores their second commitment in the 2024 recruiting class with the addition of three-star high school junior Blake Barnett. He is the quarterback of the cycle for K-State on the heels of adding four-star recruit Avery Johnson a year ago.

Johnson signed with Kansas State in December and is already enrolled in Manhattan.

K-State held the lead for the signal-caller from Colorado for a while before he pulled the trigger and gave the Wildcats his verbal pledge. According to the On3 consensus, the Erie High product is the top prospect in the state for his class.

He held other offers from Colorado, Colorado State, Kansas, Oregon State and Washington, in addition to Kansas State. However, it was more of a Big 12 battle and a head-to-head win over the Jayhawks from what we have been told by Barnett himself.

It is a home-state win for K-State offensive coordinator Collin Klein.

Barnett adds to a long list of Kansas State players from the bordering state to the west. He makes it five consecutive recruiting classes a member of the Centennial State has committed to K-State. He is also the second Colorado quarterback to commit to the Wildcats, joining current sophomore Jake Rubley.

Additionally, Erie High School specifically has been good to Kansas State. Barnett was former teammates with current redshirt freshman offensive lineman John Pastore. His endorsement of the program pushed the Wildcats over the top in Barnett’s recruitment at an early stage.

He is commitment No. 2 in the 2024 class for K-State and joins Mill Valley High offensive lineman Gus Hawkins. Barnett accounted for 3,541 total yards and 46 total touchdowns last season as a junior.
