Kansas State is not stopping in the football transfer portal. Former UConn quarterback Ta’Quan Roberson has committed to the Wildcats.

The decision comes on the heels of an official visit to K-State May 12-13. It didn’t occur over the weekend due to graduation at the university. The New Jersey native was the lone transfer visitor on the football side in The Little Apple while on campus.

Roberson entered the transfer portal on the last day it was open – May 1. His recruitment heated up quickly and had a number of Group of Five options to be a starting quarterback. However, he chose to go to Kansas State and be the back-up quarterback to Avery Johnson.

It is an impressive win for K-State quarterbacks coach Matt Wells who continues to have a strong impact on the Wildcats’ recruiting efforts in a short period of time. Wells already landed his 2025 high school quarterback in Dillon Duff and now he adds an experienced signal-caller from the transfer portal.

Adding someone that had seen college football snaps at the FBS was vital for Kansas State this offseason. Before adding Roberson, Johnson was the only one with FBS experience on the field and his lone start was just in the Pop-Tarts Bowl.

Roberson spent two seasons in Storrs as the quarterback for the Huskies.

In 2023 he started 11 games and threw for 2,075 yards and 12 touchdowns along with six interceptions. He also added 120 yards and two more scores on the ground. In the 2022 season he won the starting quarterback job out of training camp before suffering a season-ending injury on the second series of the season opener.

For his career the grad transfer has totaled 2,170 yards passing, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions and has rushed for 151 yards and three scores. Roberson is a two-time transfer, having also spent three seasons at Penn State where he played in five games.

Overall, Roberson is the third spring transfer addition for K-State. He joins New Mexico transfer linebacker Alec Marenco and Colorado transfer running back Dylan Edwards.

According to the On3 Industry Ranking (a combination of all four recruiting services), Roberson is the No. 560 ranked player in the transfer portal. He is also ranked as the best available quarterback. He has one season of eligibility remaining.
