After two years of being one of the defensive leaders for Kansas State, safety Kobe Savage has entered the transfer portal. The Paris, Texas native will now play his final college football season outside of Manhattan.

Savage came to K-State from Tyler Junior College before the 2022 season and instantly made his mark. Spending two years as a starting safety, he racked up over 80 tackles and six interceptions. His knack for being around the ball and making big hits quickly endeared him to Kansas State fans.

Savage was a key 2022 Big 12 Championship team member for the Wildcats before tearing his ACL against Baylor last season. He returned to K-State for the start of 2023 and took a little bit to get back up to normal speed, but once he did he returned to making plays for the Wildcats.

With the entry of Savage into the portal, he becomes the 15th Kansas State player to enter the transfer portal after the 2023 season. He is also the 12th member of the Big 12 championship team to depart Manhattan with eligibility remaining, adding to recent additions of Xavier Loyd and RJ Garcia.

The K-State defense in particular takes another hit with Savage’s departure.

In addition to playing the most snaps for Kansas State this season, another leader for a defense that struggled at times is gone. In addition to Savage, other notable defense members have left the team. Nate Matlack and Will Lee announced their intentions to leave K-State last week.
