Kansas State health update

Kansas State nose tackle Uso Seumalo was injured in the second half against Kansas. In fact, at one point in the second half all of the nose tackles were a little banged up. Seumalo was also seen wearing a boot after the game in Lawrence. According to K-State head coach Chris Klieman, Seumalo has not practiced yet this week. However, there is still a chance the senior nose tackle plays Saturday.

Preparing for the weather

If you have not seen the forecast for Saturday in Manhattan, it could get a little nasty. It is projected to be cold, windy and there is a chance of snow even. Preparing for the weather this week is no different for Klieman.

The Wildcat head coach always looks at the weather and Kansas State prepares a plan for the projected forecast. On offense, K-State will do some wet ball drills to get acclimated to the weather and get used to the conditions. The Wildcats already practice outdoors as well as inside in the new indoor practice facility, so the temperature should not have an impact. In fact, Kansas State has already been practicing when the sun has been down when it is cooler, so the temperature will likely not have an impact.

Super senior note

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, fifth-year players still have the option to come back next season for a second senior season. No conversations have happened about players coming back just yet according to Klieman. Those conversations will all take place after the end of the regular season meaning they could happen as soon as next week or potentially after the Big 12 Championship. It is the same philosophy Klieman has had regarding players coming back his entire tenure at Kansas State.

Importance of last week

The win over Kansas was the 15th consecutive win for K-State over their in-state rival. For Klieman he believed this team needed the win over the Jayhawks. It was a signature win for this year’s team. Remember, every game the Wildcats have won this season outside of last Saturday was in blowout fashion and they had three close losses by a combined score of 14 points. Klieman believes it was important for Kansas State to win a close game.

Holding the ball for the final five minutes on offense was important for the legacy of this season’s K-State team. However, that was just a fun chapter and there is still more to be written about the 2023 team.
