HALFTIME: Kentucky is really, really good

Folks, Kentucky might have something special here. We’re all thinking it, so let’s just say it out loud while we have a couple of minutes at halftime to let it marinate for a bit. The Cats are good, and they’re beating the No. 1 team in the country fairly comfortably, up 38-30 at the break.
Where do we even begin? Jasper Johnson is showing serious Rob Dillingham signs while Otega Oweh looks like Otega Oweh. They’re leading the team with eight points apiece, Johnson shooting 3-5 overall and 2-4 from three with a steal in 10 minutes and Oweh shooting 3-5 from the field and 1-1 from deep with a rebound, assist and steal in nine minutes. From there, Trent Noah, Mo Dioubate and Malachi Moreno have four points each, followed by Denzel Aberdeen and Kam Williams with three, then Brandon Garrison and Andrija Jelavic with two. As a group the Cats are shooting 46.7 percent from the field, 31.3 percent from three and 83.3 percent at the line.

For Purdue, it’s everything we expected it to be with the three-headed monster of Braden Smith, Trey Kaufman-Renn and Fletcher Loyer — they’ve combined for 24 of the team’s 30 points. Gicarri Harris has five and Oscar Cluff has one to round out all scorers for the Boilermakers. They’re shooting just 37 percent from the field and 28.6 percent from three, saved by the 8-11 mark at the line (thanks, Doug Shows).
Cats are outrebounding the competition 20-17 with more assists (11-6) and fewer turnovers (5-3) with the biggest difference coming on the bench, Kentucky winning that category 17-5. They’re winning every single category and it’s a ton of fun.
Are you having fun? I’m having fun. Have more fun looking at a pretty box score.

Finish them off, Cats. We need to celebrate this performance.
