Impressive Kentucky Football Stats Through Three Games

And just like that, the first quarter of the Kentucky football season has concluded. The Wildcats outscored their MAC and FCS opponents 107-34, covering the spread twice. For many across the Big Blue Nation, it’s difficult to discern how to feel about the imperfect performances. Briefly set aside the quality of UK’s opponents and take a closer look at the stats to see how the Cats stack up against the rest of the country.

Offense

Points Per Play — .775 ranks second nationally, trailing only Caleb Williams and USC.

Yards per Play — Kentucky is gaining 7.58 yards on average every snap, ranking second in the SEC and No. 13 nationally.

Rushing Offense — Kentucky gains 5.63 yards per rush (including negative yards from sacks and bad snaps), the most in the SEC.

Devin Leary — Is fourth in the SEC in yards per game (285) and yards per attempt (9.0). Leary has completed three passes of 50+ yards, the most in the conference.

Ray Davis — Averages 7.1 yards per carry, third in the SEC. He has more rushes of 20+ yards than any other SEC player with four. Davis also leads all SEC running backs with 143 receiving yards.

Tayvion Robinson — Is the third-highest graded receiver in the country, according to PFF. He averages 86.7 yards per game (No. 6 in the SEC) and has caught three touchdowns (t-4th in the SEC).

Offensive Line — Kentucky has given up 13 tackles for loss (tied for No. 3 in the SEC) and allowed only 3.0 sacks, tied for the fewest in the conference.

Defense

Points Allowed Per Game — 11.3 ranks second in the SEC and No. 12 nationally.

Rushing Yards Allowed per Game — 71.0 ranks second in the SEC and No. 14 nationally.

Opponent Yards per Play — 4.38 is in the Top 25, ranking No. 23 overall.

SacksTrevin Wallace has 3.5, the most in the SEC. He’s tied at No. 7 in the nation and has more than any other inside linebacker. The entire Kentucky defense has 10.0 sacks, tied for third in the SEC.

Maxwell Hairston — Is the second-highest graded cornerback in the country, according to PFF. Hairston is second on the team in tackles with 19. He also has a tackle for loss, an interception and a forced fumble.

Red Zone Defense — Opponents have scored on 66.6% of their red zone possessions. It ranks second in the SEC and No. 19 nationally.

Special Teams Efficiency — Ranks No. 3 nationally, according to ESPN’s SP+ rankings.
