Finally, the wait is over and Week 1 of Kentucky Football’s season is upon us.

In five short days, the Wildcats will host the Miami RedHawks in Kroger Field for the first game of maybe the most-anticipated football season of our lifetimes, and today marks the beginning of Week 1 game prep on campus and here on KSR. Now that it’s real and talking season is over, we have lots to address on what will certainly be a newsy day for Kentucky Football fans and followers, so let’s not waste any time talking about Targaryens and Valyrians or any other off-topic matters because it’s football time in the Bluegrass.

Mark Stoops to hold his first Monday press conference of the season

With the return of college football comes the return of Mark Stoops’ weekly press conference on campus to preview his team’s week ahead and the upcoming Saturday opponent. Today, Stoops will sit in front of the Kroger Field media room podium at noon for his first Monday conversation of the season and we’ll have everything you need to know about it here on Kentucky-Sports-Radio-dot-com.

Additionally, Stoops will return to Monday night radio with his weekly call-in show on the UK Sports Network from 6-7 PM.

Get ready for the first official depth chart of the season

As Stoops and his coffee have a seat in front of the media room’s microphone and the expired Coca-Cola, the Kentucky Football media team will release the first official depth chart of the season online. By noon, fans will know who earned starting roles out of fall camp and the pecking order at each position on the field before the ‘Cats host Miami on Saturday.

We’ll have that for you here so check back later this morning.

Saturday’s betting line is down to 17 points

After opening around 20 points depending where you looked, you can now get Kentucky’s opening point spread at as low as 17 points for Saturday’s home opener versus the RedHawks. The total on the game is 52.5.

Anyone out there going to get in on Kentucky -17?

Going to the game? Here are things to know.

If you’re going to be among the sold-out crowd on Saturday, get ready for the game day experience with these Frequently Asked Questions about Kroger Field.

Luckett’s Monday Huddle will be up momentarily.

Hilarious Video of the Day: Steve Zahn as Rich Scangarello

Before the day is flooded with Kentucky Football news, take a moment to watch the funny video Kentucky Football put out last night to entertain the fans. In it, actor/comedian/Kentucky Football fan Steve Zahn offered his talents for a comedic bit as he fills in for offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello at the football training facility. It’s worth five minutes of your Monday morning.

The ‘KSR Football Podcast’ returns tomorrow night

KSR’s ’11 Personnel’ and ‘Depth Chart’ podcasts have been putting out new episodes throughout fall football camp, but the ‘KSR Football Podcast‘ feed has been quiet since the spring. Tomorrow, we will get together for the first episode of the new season to preview Miami and recap all of today’s news from Mark Stoops.

If you aren’t already subscribed from years past, do that here. It’s going to be a fun season.

Top-200 recruit picked Purdue over Kentucky

One piece of Kentucky Football buzzkill on this otherwise exciting Monday morning. On Sunday, Kendrick Gilbert, a four-star defensive lineman high on Kentucky’s recruiting board, chose the Purdue Boilermakers over the Kentucky Wildcats. Gilbert is from powerhouse Cathedral High School in Indianapolis so proximity to home was likely a key factor in his decision, but it’s still a major hit to Kentucky’s recruiting efforts as Lexington was the presumed leader for Gilbert until he prolonged his summer decision and decided to stay in the Hoosier state to play in the Big Ten.

On3 ranked Gilbert as a Top 25 defensive lineman in the 2023 recruiting class.

Will Levis hosting a dinner tomorrow night in Lexington

Coming up tomorrow night, Will Levis will host a preseason dinner with fans at Lockbox at 21c Museum Hotel in Lexington. I too will be a part of the evening’s festivities as the moderator of a Q&A session with Levis to entertain event-goers while they dine on the finest cuisine from Lockbox’s chefs, in addition to questions from the crowd.

If this interests you, my understanding is a few more tickets are available to attend Levis’ preseason dinner. Click here to reserve your spot before they’re gone.

ICYMI: Kentucky Football players went bowling with fans

Last Friday, several of the stars of Kentucky Football teamed up with fans for a night of bowling in downtown Lexington. The “Bowling With Ballers” event was put on by Charities for Kentucky to raise money for a variety of local causes, including CASA of Lexington and Eastern Kentucky flood relief, plus a little money in the student-athletes’ pockets through their name, image, and likeness partnerships with the non-profit organization.

Go Cats.

Y’all have a nice Monday. It’s going to be a busy one over here.
