Mississippi State head coach Chris Jans got some great news on Sunday evening. Fresh off an NCAA Tournament appearance, the Bulldogs will get their best player back for 2023-24.

Star big man Tolu Smith has withdrawn from the 2023 NBA Draft and is returning to Starkville for his sixth season of college basketball.

After spending one year at WKU, Smith transferred to Mississippi State and quickly became a valuable part of this basketball organization. As a redshirt senior this past season, Smith averaged 15.7 points and 8.5 rebounds while playing 27.7 minutes per game. The 6-11, 245-pound big shot 57.2 percent from the floor on 10 two-point field goal attempts per game while also lead the SEC in free throw rate. Smith was a consensus first-team All-SEC selection.

The Mississippi State big should get some preseason All-American buzz this offseason. As Kentucky looks for some more potential help in the transfer portal, Tolu Smith will not be an option.
