LSU landed a commitment from 2024 Bellaire (Tex.) Shadow Creek safety Maurice Williams II on Saturday, he announced on Twitter. Williams was at LSU on Friday for an unofficial visit, pushing the Tigers over the top to land his commitment.

“The DB tradition there, the relationship with coaches, the food, the community, and it just felt like home the 1st day I visited,” Williams told On3’s Hayes Fawcett. “They let me bring my cousin to film my 1st visit, and that showed me how much they were rocking with me. I just love everything about LSU and I want to be a part of keeping the DBU tradition alive. I wanna be great at LSU.”

LSU lands one of the nation’s top safeties in Maurice Williams

On3 has Williams, the first pledge of 2024 for Brian Kelly & Co., as an On300 prospect. Director of scouting Charles Power weighed in on what LSU is getting in the new addition.

“Well-rounded safety prospect with technique and polish in coverage. Measured around 5-foot-11.5, 185 pounds as a sophomore,” Power wrote. “Plays for one of the more talented high school programs in the greater Houston area. A smooth mover in coverage. Advanced technically and has the skills to man up on receivers if needed. Shows good instincts and play speed. Ran well as a sophomore, clocking an electronically-timed 4.74 second 40-yard dash. A solid form tackler who is willing to get physical when coming down to play the run. Has the skills to make more plays on the ball in coverage as a junior.”

According to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average, Maurice Williams is the No. 71 overall player, No. 5 safety prospect nationally and No. 12 prospect in Texas. Arkansas, Houston, Michigan, Ole Miss, Oregon and others were among his top schools.
