Garrett Nussmeier talks LSU offense in spring ball

2025 Destrehan (La.) athlete Jhase Thomas was on LSU’s campus earlier this month to spend time watching spring practice. The 6-3 athlete was impressed with the coaching staff Brian Kelly’s assembled.

“I loved it,” Thomas told On3. “I loved the love the coaches showed me. They are really genuine! I can tell they genuinely want me there.”

He spoke with the staff about the changes coming to the defense.

“The new defensive coaching said that they will be a great and aggressive defense,” Thomas said.

LSU safeties coach Jake Olsen and secondary coach Corey Raymond both spoke with the three-star prospect about his versatility and more.

“I spoke with Coach Olsen and he was telling me about how and where I can benefit the defense with the new scheme that they run,” Thomas said. “I also spoke to Coach Corey Raymond about being able to be versatile and play a little corner.”

Thomas is the son of former Ole Miss Rebel and NFL cornerback, Fred Thomas. The Rebels do lead for Jhase, he told On3, while other programs like Arkansas, Colorado, Houston, UCF, Tulane, Louisiana-Monroe and Troy are involved.

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Thomas is the No. 64 overall athlete in the country and No. 24 prospect in Louisiana. On3 ranks him as the No. 31 overall athlete and No. 21 prospect in Louisiana.
