The first camp of the summer months was LSU’s OL/DL Camp on Friday, which brought in a number of college prospects from the 2024 class and beyond.

After multiple hours of workouts with the LSU coaching staff, five players walked away with verbal scholarships from the Tigers.

One of those names: Texas sophomore offensive tackle Jaylan Beckley.

Beckley gets the good news from Brad Davis

At 6-foot-5, 275 pounds, Beckley has already caught the attention of college coaches.

LSU offensive line coach Brad Davis had already made multiple stops at Trinity Christian Academy in Texas to check in on Beckley. Ahead of his trip to Baton Rouge, college offers were already in from Mississippi State, Houston, Duke and Memphis.

Following a strong showing at LSU’s camp, Davis pulled Beckley aside for a conversation – one that ended with the verbal offer being handed out.

“The convo with Coach Davis was amazing,” Beckley said. “It meant everything to me to be able to compete in camp at such a high level, and have him tell me I earned that scholarship offer.

“Coach Davis is a great guy, I respect him a lot. It was such a blessing to have my family there with me to experience that as well. It was a special moment.”

With weekend visits to both LSU and Texas, Beckley left Baton Rouge with high remarks following his stay.

“It was a blessing to be able to visit the campus, it’s beautiful,” he said. “I loved competing during camp. Coach Davis and the rest of the staff are awesome. The people at LSU definitely made this a memorable weekend for me and my family, and we’re looking forward to visiting again.”

Beckley now firmly on LSU’s radar

The offer to Beckley marks a big milestone in his recruitment to the Tigers, and now Davis will work to build on a relationship that got a boost over the weekend.

“This was my first visit to LSU,” he said. “I’m looking forward to coming back (this season) for a game. Right now, I’m just taking it all in, getting to know coaches, staff, players at the schools that have been recruiting me. I’m also still new to football, so I’m focused on learning as much as I can and improving my game.

“My visit to LSU was incredible, and now having an offer from them makes them high on my list, for sure.

“LSU has an incredible fan base, amazing facilities, and a tradition of winning. I really like the overall mission and mindset of the LSU football program.”
