LSU has landed another Louisiana commitment, this time reeling in Sulphur High 2025 tight end JD LaFleur.

LaFleur is the third commitment in three days for the Tigers, following 2024 offensive lineman Ory Williams on Sunday and 2024 offensive lineman Joseph Cryer on Monday.

On Tuesday, LaFleur went public with his verbal pledge to the Tigers.

LaFleur enters his junior season this fall as a Top 20 tight end prospect on the On3 Industry Rankings.

August 1 also marked the first day college coaches can contact 2025 recruits, meaning LaFleur shut down his process just as coaches from around the country could begin reaching out to prospects as opposed to having to recruits having to initiate contact.

Denbrock adds to another piece to the TE room

After a solid sophomore season at Sulphur High, LaFleur saw his recruitment begin to pick up steam this offseason.

College scholarship offers came in from the likes of Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Miami, Baylor and more.

That said, the the biggest news came in June when the Tigers extended him a verbal scholarship following a strong showing at the team’s summer camp.

LSU offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Mike Denbrock invited LaFleur in for June’s camp, where he was able to work out for the staff – and turn some heads along the way.

“They liked the progression I have made from last year to this spring, and then what they had seen in camp,” he said.

Once LSU’s camp season ended, Denbrock dialed up the LaFleur family and asked them to return to Baton Rouge for an unofficial visit.

From there, he delivered the verbal scholarship offer on the spot.

“They invited us to the facility, and Coach Denbrock and offensive staff greeted us at the door with the offer,” LaFleur said. “I was speechless.”

Just a little more than one month later, LaFleur committed to the Tigers. He’s the third commitment in LSU’s 2025 class, joining Louisiana offensive lineman Brett Bordelon and Georgia defensive back Jaylen Bell.

LaFleur will now follow in his father’s footsteps

For LSU fans, the last name is a familiar one.

LaFleur’s father, David LaFleur, was an All-American tight end for the Tigers in 1996 before becoming a first-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys in 1997.

27 years after his father played his final game in Baton Rouge, LaFleur is now committed to play college football at LSU.

“I have always hoped for an offer from LSU,” he said. “I have been going to games all my life. My dad would take me and my brother and sister on the field for pregame. So yeah, it’s really exciting.

“This offer means a lot to me and my family. I have been going to games there since I was a kid, and obviously my dad played there. The (summer was) crazy, and I am just trying to process all of it.”
