Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson is expected to miss at least a week of practice with “a mild hamstring strain.”

Coach Kevin O’Connell shared the news Friday, on the team’s third day of training camp, as Jefferson continues to deal with what has been reported as tightness in his legs.

The former LSU star also sat out most of Thursday’s team drills, according to Sports Illustrated’s Minnesota Vikings team hub.

“Jefferson made a leaping catch on the sideline and went to the ground after some inadvertent contact with Jeff Okudah, who was covering him on the play,” wrote Will Ragatz. “He got up quickly and dapped up Okudah, but after that, he stood on the sidelines and watched for the remainder of the practice.”

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound pass-catcher has not only been among the league’s most prolific receivers since being selected No. 22 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft, but also among its most durable.

Jefferson has played in 77 of a possible 84 regular season games, including four seasons not missing a single game. His lone regular-season absences came during the 2023 season due to a hamstring issue.

And his 7,432 yards during that span leads the league by a margin of nearly 500 yards on his nearest competition, and his 495 catches and 40 scores are also among the highest totals in the NFL.

Jefferson told reporters Thursday that his absence early in camp is more a matter of cautious than cause for concern.

He is expected to be re-evaluated next week, according to ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter.

“I’m fine after that catch, for sure,” Jefferson said, according to Sports Illustrated. “But just having a little bit of tightness. Of course, with the past recent injuries and the stuff that I have gone through before, just taking precaution and understanding that it’s the second day of camp, not the 30th. So just making sure that I’m fully healthy and I’m good to go, especially when the season starts.”
