Texas Longhorns EDGE rusher Ovie Oghoufo has announced his next college destination.

Oghoufo, who entered the NCAA Transfer Portal this offseason, has committed to the LSU Tigers.

LSU head coach Brian Kelly recruited, signed and later coached Oghoufo during his time at Notre Dame. Oghoufo joined the Irish program in 2018 and stayed on roster through the 2020 season.

Oghoufo transferred to Texas ahead of the 2021 season, playing two years in Austin before electing to transfer again, this time as a graduate student.

Oghoufo combined for 53 tackles (20 solo), three passes defensed and 1.5 sacks across 12 starts for the Longhorns this past season. In eight starts during the 2021 season, he combined for 42 tackles (21 solo), two passes defensed and two sacks.

During his time in South Bend, Oghoufo redshirted during the 2019 season before combining for 22 total tackles, 2.5 sacks and three pass breakups across 20 games played the next two seasons.

At 6-foot-3, 239 pounds, Oghoufo will join an LSU EDGE rusher group that will battle to replace BJ Ojulari, who declared for the NFL Draft following the 2022 season. LSU sophomore Zavier Carter saw time at the JACK position in the Citrus Bowl, but later entered the transfer portal.

Prior to Oghoufo’s commitment, the Tigers had already added one EDGE player from the portal in Oregon’s Bradyn Swinson. The Tigers also signed three EDGE prospects out of high school in five-star Dashawn Womack and four-stars Jaxon Howard and Dylan Carpenter.

It’s likely LSU defensive line coach Jamar Cain and defensive coordinator Matt House will shuffle players around to give multiple looks along the defensive line. Other defensive ends on roster include the likes of Saivion Jones, Quency Wiggins and Arizona transfer Paris Shand.

The Tigers have landed 10 total players through the portal.

“This group helps fill some immediate needs for our team,” LSU head coach Brian Kelly said. “Our staff did a great job of vetting each of these players to make sure they fit our program, not only from an ability standpoint, but more importantly, ensuring they are high character young men who are committed to academics.

“It’s important that when you add transfers to your roster, they have the traits we are looking for as we continue our mission to Graduate Champions. Along with the outstanding group of freshmen we signed (in December), we feel with this group of young men will significantly improve our roster for the present and the future of LSU football.”
