On300 2025 Fort Myers (Fla.) Bishop Verot quarterback Carter Smith has given Michigan a verbal commitment.

Smith picked U-M over offers from Florida, Florida State, Miami, Ole Miss, Penn State, Texas A&M and others.

Smith’s decision comes just a a little more than a week following his first-ever visit to Michigan. Smith took in the Wolverines’ dominant win over Purdue and was impressed with the program.

“It was awesome,” Smith said. “It was great to get up there and get around the coaching staff. I walked around the campus and got a feel for everything. I got a facility tour. Friday was mainly hanging around the coaches, the players and the people in the building. For it being my first game, it really impressed. It was definitely a sight to see.”

Michigan quarterbacks coach Kirk Campbell led the way in this recruitment and was able to seal the deal.

“We’ve built a pretty strong relationship over the last couple of months,” Smith said. “He came in the spring, and it really picked up once recruiting opened up for our class. We kept in contact a couple of times a week, and I was finally able to get up there. As a person, he’s a great guy. I love being around him. I really like the way he operates with the quarterbacks and his philosophy.”

Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh met with Smith on his visit and also played a big role in the Wolverines earning his pledge.

“I met with him when I first got there,” Smith said. “We mainly got to know each other because it was my first time talking to him. We had a great conversation. I love him. I think he’s a good dude. I’m excited to build off of that conversation. Knowing he played quarterback is a huge part. Having that in your corner is special. Being able to talk to him about being a college quarterback and how to get better is huge.”

At 6-foot-3, 180 pounds, Smith is ranked as the No. 8 quarterback and No. 112 overall prospect nationally, per On3. He is also ranked as the No. 17 recruit in the state of Florida for next cycle.

Smith is set to be back in Ann Arbor when Michigan takes on rival Ohio State later this month.

Michigan now has three verbal commitments in its 2025 recruiting class – Smith, Top 100 Miami (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna defensive back Chris Ewald and four-star Howell (Mich.) High defensive lineman Bobby Kanka.
