On Friday, Mississippi State held the first of its linemen camps on campus and it featured several top underclassmen. Among that talented group was 2027 offensive lineman prospect Caleb Unger of Madison-Ridgeland Academy.

Unger is no stranger to Starkville but on Friday, it presented his first opportunity to take in camp drills from Mississippi State offensive line coach Phil Loadholt.

“I’ve been to Mississippi State multiple times,” Unger remarked. “It was nice being back for camp, too. I’ve shown a lot of coaches my spring practice film but I wanted to show what I can do in front of the new coaching staff there.”

Of course, Unger spent most of his time on campus around Loadholt, who offered Unger earlier this spring. And Loadholt’s teaching methods left a good impression on Unger.

“Coach Loadholt, the way he worked with us really stood out to me,” added the 6-foot-3 and 295-pound Unger. “It was just the way he teaches. He teaches kids and develops them well.”

In particular, Loadholt was able to give Unger several tips to aid his game in the trenches. That included specifics with his run-blocking techniques.

“Since I am not the biggest linemen, he taught me things to help with that,” Unger noted. “When I run block, I have to pull my hips through better. That was the biggest thing I took away, making sure I pull my hips through when I run block.”

On the recruiting trail, Unger is already off and rolling in that aspect. He currently holds Power 4 offers from Mississippi State, LSU, Florida State and Colorado among others.

“It’s been a great experience,” shared Unger. “I’ve been working so hard and it shows me that the hard work really pays off. It is still too early for any favorites. I am still looking around to see which schools may be a great fit.”

Looking ahead to the rest of the summer, Unger has already gotten a good view of several schools this year. He also has a pair of upcoming SEC visits on his schedule, too.

“So far I’ve been to Mississippi State, Florida, Clemson and LSU this summer and spring,” explained Unger. “Then I will be going to Alabama on Saturday and then Tennessee. That will probably be it for right now.”
