During his junior season at Westgate (La.) High School, 2025 athlete prospect Davian Jackson had mixed emotions and for good reason. An early-season injury cost Jackson some playing time but he bounced back and closed out the season on a high note.

Jackson played several positions a year ago and plans to extend those duties on defense in his senior campaign.

“My junior was kind of good,” said Jackson. “I was more explosive my junior year but I ended up getting hurt the third game of the season. But when I came back and I picked up right where I left off. I showed that I have to go harder and I proved to people that I am one of the best athletes in Louisiana. I played receiver, running back, cornerback and this upcoming season I will be playing safety, too.”

On the recruiting scene, Jackson holds several Power 5 offers and that includes a trio of SEC offers. He is also being recruited for his talents on both sides of the ball, he said.

“So far I have offers from Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Miami, Arkansas State, Houston and some others,” Jackson remarked. “I also have offers from Georgia Tech and Louisiana. Mississippi State is recruiting me on the offensive side of the ball but Miami is recruiting me as a defensive back.”

In the spring period, Jackson took in a few unofficial visits despite his tight schedule with other sports. This summer he has also set up a pair of official visits in June.

“In the spring I went to Mississippi State, Louisiana Tech and Louisiana,” recalled the 6-foot-2 and 185-pound Jackson. “That was really it because I had a lot of track meets. This summer I am going on an official visit to Mississippi State on June 21-23 and I go to Miami for an official on June 26.”

Mississippi State was among Jackson’s first Power 5 offers and as noted, earlier this spring he got his first look at the Bulldogs’ program and head coach Jeff Lebby and his staff.

“That visit to Mississippi State was amazing,” Jackson said. “Everything was great from the atmosphere to the coaching staff and all of the players. Everyone was welcoming and it was a great experience. Their facilities and everything about the school I love.

“Me and Coach Bump (Chad Bumphis) have been knowing each other since my sophomore year. But my junior year we really got to know each other. He is a cool dude and I think he can help me reach the next level. He can develop me as a football player and as a man.”

Looking ahead, Jackson hasn’t laid out his plans for a commitment timeline. He does have a couple of thoughts in mind with that process and he also has a few teams on his favorites’ list.

“As of right now, I haven’t thought much about it,” mentioned Jackson. “But if I had to say right now, I may decide by the end of the summer or right before football season starts. Mississippi State is definitely a favorite and Arkansas, Miami and Ole Miss are other schools up there.”
