NC State women’s basketball picked up its second commitment of the week Wednesday night when Lorena Awou announced her decision to join the Wolfpack. The class of 2024 6-5 forward officially visited campus earlier this fall.

She picked NC State over an impressive offer list that included Michigan, Kentucky and Miami.

“First I want to thank God for the ability that He gave me to play the game I love!” Awou wrote on Twitter. “I would also like to thank my parents for their constant love and countless sacrifices they provided me throughout this process to make my dream a reality. I want to thank my sister, for always pushing me to be the best version of myself self on and off the court! Next I would like to thank Carolyn Hull, Dexter Hull, Coach Pavelonis, and Jordan Harris for always helping me improve my game, and also being my biggest supporters as well!

“I would like to thank my trainer Anthony for constantly pushing me every time I train with him, for believing in me and helping me grow as a player. A big thanks to my Midwest elite family, Coach Banks and Tracy Santamour for helping me with this opportunity! With that being said, I am excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at NC State University! LETS GO WOLFPACK.”

Awou joins four-star guard Devyn Quigley in the 2024 class. They both took their official visits to NC State the weekend of Sept. 15. Per the qctimes.com, Awou, who plays for East Moline (Ill.) United High, averaged 12 points and 12.2 rebounds per game as a junior. Quigley, a 5-11 wing prospect from Manchester Township (NJ) High, ranks No. 47 nationally and scored 34.9 points per game last season, per nj.com. She also recorded 11.3 rebounds and 3.75 steals per game.

NC State is also continuing to recruit five-star point guard Zamareya Jones. The elite 5-7 recruit officially visited the Wolfpack the final weekend of September.

The Wolfpack heads into the 2023-2024 season with 11 scholarship players, including center River Baldwin, center Lizzy Williamson and forward Mimi Collins, who are all graduate students this year, and senior guard Madison Hayes. NC State’s staff could sign a large class this year, one season after bringing in 4 scholarship freshmen, including five-star point guard Zoe Brooks.
