NC State men’s basketball added a trio of priority transfer portal prospects over the past three days, retooling a roster that lost its two star guards and a few key members of its front court.

The Wolfpack staff four prospects with high major experience to next year’s roster. Jayden Taylor, DJ Horne, Ben Middlebrooks and MJ Rice have all joined the program over the past week, helping the Pack climb to No. 3 in On3’s transfer portal rankings.

Taylor from Butler, Horne from Arizona State, Middlebrooks from Clemson and Rice from Kansas all committed to the Wolfpack after recent visits.

West Virginia and Arkansas are the only programs above the Wolfpack in On3’s rankings. The next closest ACC team is Georgia Tech at No. 8. NC State added four athletes with an average player rating of 89.50 and lost three members of last year’s squad who held an average rating of 74.67.

After combining those arrivals and departures, the Pack’s index score stands at 18, which is 4 points out of a tie for first place.

This is the second-consecutive year that the transfer portal has been huge for NC State’s men’s basketball program. Last year, Jarkel Joiner, D.J. Burns, Jack Clark and Dusan Mahorcic all transferred in and played significant roles.

Rice committed to NC State Wednesday. The former in-state, five-star prospect and McDonald’s All-American played one year at Kansas.

Horne officially signed with the Wolfpack after committing earlier this week.

Pack football landed a commitment from three-star priority running back Jayden Scott Wednesday. He is the fifth member of the Pack’s 2024 recruiting class.

Check out these highlights from Scott, who will bring exceptional speed and quickness to the Wolfpack backfield.
