NC State men’s basketball received a late commitment in the 2022 class Friday afternoon when Mady Traoré announced he will be joining the Wolfpack. He is the program’s second high school commitment of the class and provides post depth to a now-complete roster.

The 6-11, 195 pound French big man committed to NC State over offers from Kansas, Auburn, Oregon and others. On3’s Jamie Shaw considers Traoré a high-potential prospect with plenty of room to grow.

“Mady Traoré is a long, 6-10/6-11 forward who moves really well for a guy his size,” Shaw told The Wolfpacker. “There is still a raw nature to his game and the game will have to slow down for him, but he runs very well, and is a good quick-twitch athlete. Watching him play, you see the skill set. He has smooth shooting form and can put on the floor for a couple of dribbles in the open court. He will need to add weight and continue improving, but his physical profile makes him a solid gamble as a late addition.”

Traoré’s most recent offer was from Arkansas State in May and, according to the On3 Database, he visited Auburn last fall. The big man has some shooting touch as well. He played for the Georgia Stars AAU team this summer.

The newest member of the Wolfpack recruiting class is a three-star prospect according to the On3 Consensus Ranking. He’s also the No. 252 prospect in the 2022 class and the No. 51 power forward.

Prior to his commitment, there was speculation that the 12th and final scholarship on the NC State roster could remain open going into the fall. That is no longer the case. Traore joins three-star guard Liron Thomas in the 2022 class, and the two will look to carve out a role on the team amongst a team filled with newcomers.

Traoré is the latest addition to NC State’s overhauled roster

The Wolfpack brought in four transfers in addition to Thomas and Traoré, adding a ton of experience and depth to a team that will likely be led by Terquavion Smith, who returned to NC State after going through the NBA Draft process.

DJ Burns, Jack Clark, Jarkel Joiner and Dusan Mahorcic will all arrive in Raleigh from their previous programs prepared to contribute instantly. Burns and Mahorcic will likely be fixtures in the front court, meaning it will be a crowded competition for playing time during Traoré’s freshman year. NC State’s roster now holds the maximum of 12 scholarship athletes, and the Wolfpack now turns its attention to preparing for the 2022-2023 season, which is just over three months away.
