The Wolfpacker’s Tuesday Morning Newsstand

Following a 4-1 start to the season, NC State women’s basketball has dropped three spots to No. 13 in the Associated Press Women’s Basketball Poll. The fall is a reaction by the voters to the Wolfpack’s 91-69 loss to No. 3 UConn.

NC State started the year at No. 10 in the preseason AP ranking and maintained that position before the slight drop this week. The Cancun Challenge hosts the Pack this week for games against Vanderbilt and West Virginia before the program travels for another ranked showdown with No. 9 Iowa.

A total of five ACC programs are ranked this week, with Notre Dame, North Carolina and Louisville all checking into the top-10 of the poll.

Quote of the day

This quote is from NC State head coach Dave Doeren discussing the upcoming rivalry game with North Carolina.

“Even though this season has taken a different path for us with our injuries, I can’t say enough about the spirit of this team and the staff,” Doeren said. “It’s a great group of people, and I think in a week of Thanksgiving, I’m truly thankful to have had the opportunity to work with these guys and the staff and players.

“We’re going to fight. We’re looking forward to getting on that field, embrace the opportunity to compete against a nine-win team. We got a great group of guys. We will be physical in this game. We’re going to compete until the clock runs out of time.”
