The Wolfpacker Show: Previewing NC State vs. UNC
NC State is ready to close out the 2025 regular season campaign with a primetime matchup with UNC on Saturday night (7:30 p.m., ACCN) at Carter-Finley Stadium. The Pack is coming off a win over Florida State, while the Tar Heels lost to Duke in the penultimate game of the fall.
Inside Carolina’s Spencer Haskell joins The Wolfpacker Show to break down the primetime matchup between the Tar Heels and Wolfpack.
On this episode:
– After the opening segment, Spencer started off by giving his initial thoughts on UNC’s turbulent season to this point. He broke down why this season hasn’t been great and at what point it went from a team with growing pains to a down year for the Tar Heels’ program.
– UNC is led by former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick, who has been in the national headlines for nearly the entire season. Spencer talked about the Belichick Experience and what he’s been like to interact with throughout the fall to this point.
– The Tar Heels brought in South Alabama transfer quarterback Gio Lopez after spring practice. Although he was an up-and-coming signal-caller at the Group of Five level, Lopez hasn’t been able to find the same success in the ACC. He has thrown for just 1,629 yards with 12 total touchdowns and five interceptions. Spencer broke down what he’s seen from Lopez, including some recent growth in his game.

– Once Spencer talked about the offense, he also touched on the Tar Heels’ other playmakers, including wideout Jordan Shipp, UNC’s top receiving option under Belichick. He also talked about the running back rotation and how it doesn’t tend to make much sense on a consistent basis with a revolving door in the Tar Heels’ backfield.
– After rolling through the key parts of UNC’s offense, Spencer moved to the other side of the ball and the defense. That unit has been the more consistent part of the Tar Heels’ team this season and he explained why.
– Rounding out the guest appearance, Spencer pointed out what UNC needs to do to leave Raleigh with a win. NC State has won each of the last four meetings, while it is 8-4 against the Tar Heels under coach Dave Doeren.
