Jake Peters has felt the hesitancy from schools to offer. He lacks that prototypical height that some programs insist on. Nebraska is looking for recruits that can play. Put on Jake Peters’ film, and you will see a guy that can play the game. The Huskers offered Peters a week ago following his summer camp performance, and Peters committed to Nebraska a week later after his official visit to Lincoln.

“I haven’t had a chance to spend much time in Lincoln,” Peters said. “This weekend was about spending some time around the coaches and the players. That’s really what I did.

“I spent a lot of time with coach Raiola and I spent a lot of time with the players. I had a really good weekend and it felt like home.”

Big part of commitment decision for Jake Peters was time with Nebraska offensive linemen

Peters was hosted by one of Nebraska’s starting interior offensive linemen, and he said that he hung out with the rest of the offensive line all weekend. Peters got a lot out of his conversations with his player host.

“My host was Ethan Piper and he was really great to talk to. Some of my favorite parts of the weekend was just driving to different places and picking his brain. He’s a great dude and has lots of wisdom.

“I really just hung out with the offensive line this weekend. We also hung out with Michael Burt and Landen Davidson.”

Peters plays offensive tackle for his Cedar Falls (Iowa) high school team. The 6-foot-3 and 265-pound Peters currently gets it done from his tackle position but figures to the inside at the next level.

“They see me as an interior offensive lineman so either as a guard or a center,” Peters said. “They are really excited for me. One of the biggest things for me is that they believe in me as a player and even as a person. That makes me trust a lot and buy-in.”

Other D1 schools haven’t been as quick to offer Peters as Nebraska has. He feels like his height has gotten in the way, but that was something Nebraska wanted him to know how they saw things.

“I feel like a lot of the bigger schools have been hesitant with me because of my height. That’s one of the things that both coach Raiola and coach Rhule said to me. They don’t care as much about height as they do really good football players.”

Peters says some exciting things are happening at Nebraska, like the new facilities. His decision was more about him feeling at home in Lincoln and with the people involved with the program.

“The facilities are really great, they are building that new one, but it’s more than the facilities for me. It’s about the people, coach Rhule and coach Raiola and even the players and the rest of the staff. It’s a family there and I wanted to be part of a family.”
