Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule continues to add to his 2023 roster.

On Thursday, two intriguing players announced their intentions to walk on for the Huskers. Iowa Western C.C. quarterback and Sioux City (Iowa) North product Luke Longval confirmed his intention to leave IWCC after one season and join NU. He participated in the Huskers’ post-graduate camp in Lincoln a week ago.

“Nebraska held a camp for transfers that I heard about and wanted to attend,” the 6-foot-2, 200-pound Longval told HuskerOnline. “I threw well and impressed the coaches. They watched the film from the camp along with my high school film then days after the camp and offered me the spot.”

Longval gives offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield another veteran arm to add to his room, as the Huskers have just three scholarship quarterbacks on the roster heading into 2023.

Longval was in contention to win the starting job at Iowa Western in 2023 after redshirting the 2022 season. He’ll have four years to play four in Lincoln.

As a senior in high school, Longval tore his ACL, which led him to Iowa Western for the 2022 season.

“I attended a good amount of camps throughout high school and really wanted to play college ball,” Longval said. “I felt like I was being pretty heavily recruited by schools in my area/midwest but it died down when COVID hit along with my ACL tear late in the season. Iowa Western reached out the day after I tore my ACL and was supportive throughout the process of getting me to campus.”

Washington speedster will also walk on at Nebraska

Not only did the Huskers add a quarterback on Wednesday, but they also got a walk-on commit for 2023 from one of the fastest athletes in the state of Washington.

Bonney Lake (Wash.) wide receiver Cooper Wilson announced his intentions to walk on in 2023. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Wilson had intended to go to Montana before that.

What jumps out about Wilson is he was the state champion in Washington in the 100-meter dash with a PR time of 10.67 seconds. He also runs 21.44 seconds in the 200-meter dash and 49.34 seconds in the 400-meter dash.

Longval will get right to work

It will be a brief celebration and a drive up I-29 for Longval and his family.

The plan is to go home and return to Lincoln by this weekend so he can immediately begin his journey as a Husker.

The most interesting thing about Longval’s story is the new Nebraska staff did not know of him before the camp. He’s a perfect example of the type of player you can uncover by running a post-graduate camp.

“They told me they want me to get to campus ASAP to compete for a fall camp spot,” Longval said. “I plan on moving into campus housing Sunday afternoon and getting started.”
