Nebraska has had a successful official visit weekend, landing commitments from four official visitors. Evan Taylor, from Waxhaw (N.C.) Cuthbertson is the third defensive back from this weekend’s visitors to commit to Matt Rhule and his staff. Nebraska sees Taylor playing cornerback, but Taylor sees a general fit in the Nebraska defense and secondary.

“Nebraska really is just perfect,” Taylor said. “I fully trust these coaches to develop me to my full potential. There are not a lot of distractions there so I can really focus on school and football.”

Nebraska players and city of Lincoln played big role for Evan Taylor

Coming from North Carolina, it was hard for Taylor to know what to expect when he saw Nebraska. The city took him by surprise, and the Nebraska players showed Taylor there is a family vibe in Lincoln.

“I got to see how some of the players live and got to build a stronger relationship with the coaches. What really surprised me is Lincoln has a lot more going on here than I expected.”

Taylor had a good chance to hang out with several players this weekend and some of the other recruits. The current players had great things to say about Matt Rhule and how he pushes all of them to be the best they can be.

“My player host was Derek Branch,” Taylor said. “I also got to hang out with Dwight Bootle and Princewill Umanmielen. Me and the other recruits spent time together and got closer as well.

“The players told us that there is no better place than Nebraska. They like the way that coach Rhule and the staff is always pushing them to be their best on and off the field. It’s what separates them from other schools.”

Coach Coop sees Evan Taylor playing cornerback for Nebraska

Taylor adds his name to the list of defensive backs committed to Nebraska for the 2024 cycle. The 6-foot-3 and 175-pound Taylor will get his first look at cornerback, but he feels he can be a ballhawk anywhere in the secondary.

“Nebraska is recruiting me as a cornerback,” Taylor said. “The coach recruiting me is Evan Cooper. I had a chance to sit down and go through film and learn a couple of things from him this weekend.

“I think that the defense is going to be really good mainly because the defensive backs are versatile enough to play anywhere whether it’s cornerback or safety. And I think that I will fit right into that because I want to be a ballhawk and make plays.”

Taylor was timed at 10.63 in the 100-meter and 21.74 in the 200-meter this spring. Taylor committed to Nebraska after taking official visits to Rutgers and ECU.
