There has been a noticeable push by the Nebraska staff to develop a better presence in Texas. Matt Rhule and his staff have spent a lot of time recruiting the state, and they can add another commitment to the 2024 class from Texas. Lancaster (Texas) running back Kewan Lacy committed to the Nebraska staff ahead of leaving Lincoln from his official visit.

Kewan Lacy is a Husker. The official visit this weekend to see Nebraska was critical to his process. Following his official visit, he feels he is going to the right place because Nebraska will develop him into an NFL-caliber player.

“It’s a program that is going to produce NFL talent,” Lacy said. “It’s somewhere that I want to be. I want to go on and play in the NFL and I don’t think that there is a better place for me to go to get ready for the NFL.”

If you put on the film for Lancaster High School, you will see that they used Lacy in various ways to get him the football. Nebraska plans to do more of the same, and Lacy is excited about the type of talent the Huskers plan to put around him on offense.

“They are going to use all of my talents and abilities. They want me to run downhill, stretch plays, and throw me the football. They are going to surround me with great players on the offensive line, the receivers, tight ends, and quarterback.”

Lacy becomes the sixth player from Texas to commit to Nebraska. The Nebraska staff was everywhere during the evaluation periods this year, which is paying off.

“I love it, I just love it! Texas kids go everywhere and now there are a bunch headed to Nebraska. We are just going to take over.”

Kewan Lacy feels a connection with the entire Nebraska coaching staff

The people at Nebraska made the official visit special for Lacy this weekend. He didn’t feel close with just a couple of them. He felt a connection to all of them.

“I really liked the people there. When I got there is was all about Husker football and all about the school and the program. It’s a great program and a great place.

“I had great conversations with the Nebraska coaches. I connected with them. And I didn’t just connect with one or two of them, I connected with all of them. I liked them a lot.”

Lacy has his college decision behind him and says he is focused on the next 16 games of his career. He wants to win a state championship this fall at Lancaster and believes they have the talent to do it.

“Just working! Trying to get that ring! We need to win the next 16 games before I head off to college. Last year could have been our year too, but I think we can go all of the way this year.”

Lacy was a sophomore at Fort Worth (Texas) Nolan Catholic and had a big year. Lacy helped lead Nolan Catholic to the state finals and lost. As a junior, Lacy missed a few games and had to play a few games very dinged up. Lacy says that he is 100% healthy now.
