Miami Christopher Columbus class of 2023 running back Sedrick Irvin Jr. pledged to the Fighting Irish last September, but his time as a Notre Dame commitment has come to an end.

The 5-10, 177-pounder announced Thursday afternoon that he is decommitting from Notre Dame.

“After speaking to my parents and coaches I have decided it would be in my best interest to de-commit from the University of Notre Dame and I am reopening my recruitment,” Irvin said in his announcement. “I appreciate everyone at Notre Dame for recruiting me.”

Notre Dame initially beat out beat out the likes of Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia and Miami for the four-star running back who ranks as the nation’s No. 351 overall prospect and No. 28 running back according to the 2023 On3 Consensus.

On3’s own rankings list him as a three-star recruit and the nation’s No. 60 running back.

The Fighting Irish now have 12 commitments in the 2023 class, which still ranks No. 1 according to the Consensus Football Team Recruiting Rankings.

Notre Dame is left without a running back pledge in the 2023 class, but news broke this week that Lehigh Acres (Fla.) Senior five-star running back Richard Young would be officially visiting Notre Dame in June. Young is the No. 1 running back in his class, No. 7 player from Florida and No. 25 player nationally per the 2023 On3 Consensus.

Lake Stevens (Wash.) High’s Jayden Limar, the No. 265 overall recruit and No. 16 running back nationally, is expected to announce his commitment May 26, and Notre Dame is the favorite to land his services according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) at 97.9 percent.

The Irish are also in the mix for St. Louis Christian Brothers’ Jeremiyah Love, the No. 216 player and No. 10 running back in the 2023 class.
