Notre Dame has lost a commitment from its 2023 class. Lake Stevens (Wash.) High running back Jayden Limar is backing off his pledge.

The 5-11, 190-pounder committed to Notre Dame over the likes of Oregon, Washington State, UCLA and USC back on May 26, but the Ducks never gave up on Limar. The last visit Limar took to South Bend was over the summer for his official visit, while Oregon was able to get him on campus this past weekend. It was the third time he’s visited Eugene in the past two months.

On National Signing Day, Limar decommitted from the Irish and flipped his pledge to Oregon.

“This was a very tough decision for me,” Limar told On3. “I have nothing but love for Notre Dame. I have been thinking about this for probably two months. But at the end of the day, I have to do what’s best for me and my family.”

The Irish also lost a commitment earlier today to Oregon; five-star safety Peyton Bowen flipped to the Ducks.

Only a couple weeks ago, Notre Dame had three running back commitments, but the Irish are now down to St. Louis Christian Brothers’ Jeremiyah Love as the lone ball carrier in the cycle. Derby (Kan.) High’s Dylan Edwards broke his Notre Dame pledge and flipped to Colorado Dec. 10.

The Irish also have Portsmouth (Va.) Churchland athlete Brandyn Hillman committed, and as a high school quarterback who is a dynamic runner, he could play running back for the Irish.

Notre Dame has a stable of young running backs on its roster in rising juniors Audric Estime and Logan Diggs, rising sophomores Gi’Bran Payne and Jadarian Price and then Love, who will enroll at Notre Dame over the summer.

According to the On3 Consensus, Limar ranks as the No. 281 overall player and No. 19 running back in America. On3’s own rankings have him as a three-star player and the No. 49 ball carrier in the land.

Limar’s senior season was nothing short of sensational. He ran 235 times for 2,026 yards and scored 40 total touchdowns. Lake Stevens knocked off Burien (Wash.) Kennedy Catholic 24-22 in the championship game of the Washington Class 4A state playoffs to send off Limar on a high note.

“It’s amazing,” Limar said about winning the state title. “I broke every rushing record at the school, so I knew if I helped us win a state title, it would solidify the legacy, and we were able to get that done.”
