High school juniors are at least two months removed from the end of their seasons, prospect camps are in full swing and the On3 scouting team has mostly verified measurables. All these data points resulted in a brand-new 2025 class player rankings update on Monday for Notre Dame’s verbal commits and other recruits.

After finalizing the 2024 class player rankings earlier this month, On3’s director of scouting and rankings, Charles Power, and On3 national scout, Cody Bellaire, have been working to overhaul the 2025 class player rankings. Now, they have unveiled them.

The Fighting Irish have seven 2025 commits ranked inside the updated On300 and a new five-star recruit. Previously, Notre Dame’s 2025 class featured six On300 recruits and zero five-star prospects.

Here is a breakdown of how the Fighting Irish fared in On3’s first 2025 class player rankings update since Oct. 16.

Offensive tackle Will Black a newly minted five-star prospect

Wallingford (Conn.) Choate Rosemary Hall offensive tackle Will Black was the fifth biggest riser in the On300. Black moved up 197 spots from the No. 207 overall player to the No. 6 recruit in the 2025 class. On3 now considers the 6-foot-7, 285-pound Black the top offensive tackle in the 2025 cycle. He is also now the top prospect in Connecticut.

Black’s new ranking now gives the Irish their top-ranked recruit since On3 began rating prospects in the 2021 cycle. Previously, On3 ranked offensive tackles Guebry Lambert (2024) and Charles Jaguasah (2023) as the No. 18 and 25 overall players in their respective recruiting classes.

On Dec. 21, Black verbally committed to Notre Dame over Michigan, Penn State and 18 other “Core Four” (ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, SEC) offers. Georgia has since offered Black on Feb. 7. However, he remains fully locked in with the Irish.

Joseph Reiff’s debut in the On300 gives the Irish six more top 300 recruits

Just five “Core Four” offers and an early Irish commitment did not stop On3 from making Elmhurst (Ill.) York Community defensive lineman Joseph Reiff one of 60 players to debut in the updated On300.

The 6-5, 260-pound Reiff is now the No. 240 overall player, No. 20 defensive lineman nationally and No. 8 prospect in Illinois. Previously, Reiff was the No. 41 defensive lineman and No. 10 Illinois recruit in the 2025 class. His rating went up two points from 88 to 90.

Winter Garden (Fla.) West Orange safety Ivan Taylor was another big riser in the On300. Taylor moved up 51 spots to the No. 121 overall player in the class. The 5-11, 163-pounder is also the No. 13 safety in the class and the No. 16 overall prospect in Florida. He was previously the No. 171 overall player, No. 15 safety nationally and No. 24 prospect in Florida. Taylor now holds a 91 rating instead of a 90.

Quarterback Deuce Knight and EDGE Christopher Burgess Jr. maintained their 94 and 91 ratings despite slight rankings slides.

Lucedale (Miss.) George County’s Knight is now the No. 54 overall player, No. 6 quarterback and No. 4 player in Mississippi. The 6-4½, 200-pound Knight was formerly the No. 29 overall player, No. 5 quarterback and No. 2 recruit in his state.

Chicago (Ill.) Simeon’s Burgess checked in at No. 157 overall, No. 17 EDGE and No. 5 prospect in Illinois. On3 previously ranked the 6-4, 230-pounder as the No. 130 overall player, No. 8 EDGE and No. 3 recruit in the state. He played most of his junior season with a wrist injury.

Green Bay (Ill.) Notre Dame de la Baie Academy tight end James Flanigan is five spots behind Taylor. The 6-6, 220-pound, 220-pound Irish legacy slotted at No. 126 overall, No. 6 at tight end and No. 1 in Wisconsin. Before Monday’s update, he was the No. 92 overall player and No. 5 tight end. His rating fell one point from 92 to 91.

Waukesha (Wis.) Catholic Memorial tackle Owen Strebig is the No. 234 overall player, No. 17 offensive tackle and No. 2 prospect in Wisconsin. The 6-7, 295-pounder was previously the No. 111 overall player and No. 11 offensive tackle. His rating is 90 instead of 92.

Notre Dame only trails Clemson (10) and Ohio State (8) for the most commits in the On300.
