One of Notre Dame football’s top 2025 class recruiting targets is set to come off the board soon. On Wednesday, top 125 four-star offensive tackle Owen Strebig from Waukesha (Wis.) Catholic Memorial announced he will reveal his college commitment on Feb. 8. Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Miami, Florida State and Southern California are finalists.

The 6-foot-7, 295-pounder’s impending pledge comes after he paid three unofficial college recruiting visits in January. On Jan. 13, Wisconsin, which has hosted him more than any other school, welcomed him to campus for the seventh time. He returned to Notre Dame for the sixth time on Jan. 20. Miami hosted him on a second occasion last Sunday.

The On3 Industry Ranking — a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services — considers Strebig the No. 111 overall player, No. 12 offensive tackle nationally and No. 1 prospect in Wisconsin in 2025. In On3’s own rankings, Strebig is the No. 111 player in the class, No. 11 offensive tackle, and No. 2 recruit in Wisconsin.

Miami, Notre Dame and Wisconsin are three programs that also made Stebig’s top 11 schools on Dec. 18. Florida, Florida State, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Michigan, Southern California and UCF also made his initial cut.

Notre Dame makes a big push in Owen Strebig’s recruitment this month

The Irish have long prioritized Strebig as their top offensive tackle target in the 2025 cycle. First-year offensive line coach Joe Rudolph offered the On3 Industry Ranking’s No. 2 offensive tackle in the Midwest on March 20.

Rudolph has maintained a consistent relationship throughout Strebig’s recruitment. He stopped by Catholic Memorial High twice during the NCAA winter recruiting contact period, including as recently as Tuesday.

On Jan. 19, the first time Rudolph visited Strebig this year, Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman and offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock accompanied him. That set the stage for an outstanding sixth trip to Notre Dame the next day.

“Coach Freeman and I have a great relationship,” Strebig told Blue & Gold on Jan. 22. “We’ve been able to spend a lot of time together. My relationship with Coach Rudolph is really strong. He’s visited my school a handful of times. We’ve had so many sit-down meetings, watching film and talking about life.

“Another big thing is that I know Coach Rudolph, and he knows my family. My family knows his family, like his wife. His wife is on visits. We’ve grown our relationship outside of football.”

The Irish currently have 14 verbal commits in the 2024 cycle, including one offensive tackle in Will Black. Wallingford (Conn.) Choate Rosemary Hall’s Black is the No. 318 overall player, No. 23 offensive tackle and No. 2 prospect in Connecticut in 2025, per the On3 Industry Ranking.
