Tim Hyde’s thoughts on Notre Dame’s “Pot of Gold” recruiting initiative

“It’s fun to see who they offer and the graphics are outstanding. Notre Dame takes over social media for the day and gives hypes to those players. It’s actually been around for 10 years ago. In 2012 or 2013, they sent out a bunch of letters to recruits and had the #PotofGold hashtag. But it went away, and it’s become its own thing the past couple years.

“It’s cool. They send out the offers, but my thing is looking back at the offers. The amount of guys who show interest is in the single digits. If they send out 70 offers, how many of them are really interested in Notre Dame? Is this the first time they’re hearing from Notre Dame or has there been communication beforehand? And last year, half were from the deep south, and they’ll strike out on probably all of them. What does it matter to offer kids from Florida if you’re not going to land them?

“But it is cool to see who the early guys are … But I love looking back at, and it’s been a lot more successful in 2024 than in 2023.
